HomesAndHedge is a UK home and garden information site operated by Best Business Loans Ltd (company number 16833937). We help you identify a problem at home, judge how serious it is, fix it where you safely can, and find who to call when you cannot. This page sets out, in plain terms, how we use AI, how we check facts, how we fix mistakes, how to complain, and how we look after your data. Our content is general information, not professional advice; some jobs carry legal or safety duties, and we say so on the page.

How we use AI

We use modern AI tools to help with research and first drafts, the same way we use a spellchecker or a spreadsheet. They make us faster. They do not make our decisions and they do not have the final word.

  • A named human reviews and signs off every published page. AI never publishes on its own.
  • Our content is general information, not professional advice. Identification, seriousness ratings and cost guides are a starting point, not a survey, diagnosis or legal opinion. For anything structural, health-related or legally sensitive, use a qualified professional.
  • We do not publish fabricated facts. Figures, rules and identification details are taken from named sources such as the Property Care Association, the RHS, the NHS and gov.uk, or left out.
  • AI does not make automated decisions about you. Our identify-and-compare tools run open, checkable logic; there is no profiling and no automated decision that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
  • Any personal data handled by AI tools is processed in line with our privacy notice and UK data protection law.

Our use of AI is guided by UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) and the ICO's guidance on AI and automated decision-making. Where AI could affect a reader, a person stays in the loop, in line with the direction of AI regulation such as the EU AI Act.

Named authorship and editorial standards

Every page carries a named editor and a last-reviewed date. HomesAndHedge is edited by Oliver Mackman, who is accountable for the site's editorial standards and sourcing. He checks that claims are backed by a named source, that guidance carries the right caveats, and that corrections are handled promptly. We publish independent home and garden information, not paid-for placements, and any sponsored material is labelled as such with the sponsor named. The full detail is in our editorial policy, and you can see the person behind the content on our editorial team page.

Fact-checking and sources

Before a page goes live, factual claims are checked against a named source, not another website. In practice that means:

  • Damp, mould and structural guidance follows the Property Care Association.
  • Plant identification and invasive-weed guidance follows the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Health-related points follow the NHS, and legal duties follow gov.uk.
  • Where a figure cannot be attributed to a named source, we leave it out.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it. Email [email protected] with the page address and what is incorrect. We review correction reports promptly and aim to respond within two working days. When a fact or figure changes, we fix the page and update its last-reviewed date so the change is visible.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with something we have published or with our service, we want to hear about it. Email [email protected] or write to Best Business Loans Ltd, and please include your name, how to reach you, and what went wrong.

We acknowledge every complaint within five working days and aim to give a full response within four weeks.
