Accessibility statement

HomesAndHedge is read by people across the UK dealing with a real problem at home or in the garden: a pest, damp and mould, an invasive plant like Japanese knotweed, or drainage trouble. Often you are reading on a phone, in a hurry, or feeling stressed. We build the site to be calm, clear and easy to use for everyone, including people who use assistive technology.

Features that help you find things

• Site search. A search box sits in the header on every page, and there is a full search page if you prefer.
• Site index. The site index lists every page in one place, so you can scan the whole site rather than hunt through menus.
• Plain English. We avoid jargon and explain technical terms where we use them, so guidance is easy to follow whether or not you know the subject.

A readable, calm design

Pages use clear type, strong colour contrast, generous spacing and obvious headings. There are no pop-ups, no auto-playing media and no sign-up walls, so nothing gets in the way of the content. The layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, and you can use your browser zoom to make everything larger without breaking the page.

Keyboard and screen-reader support

Pages are built with proper headings, landmarks, link text and form labels, so they work with keyboard navigation and with screen readers. A "skip to main content" link lets keyboard users jump straight past the menu, and the search box is properly labelled for assistive technology.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard. We are not perfect, and we keep testing and improving the site as we add content.
